“Yes, yes, yes,” she said. “I accept, and that’s it. You can’t take the offer back.”
“Trust me,” he replied. “Now that you’ve committed, you’re going.”
Linda nodded again.
John felt so happy inside as he gazed on the woman he realized he was now desperately in love with. Had she not agreed to return to Delaware with him, his heart would have been shattered. And despite what anyone might have thought, he did care that she was his mother. That was one of the main reasons he had fallen in love with her. Her advanced age had been another. Seeing the lines moving from the edges of her eyes out towards her temples only seemed to increase her beauty as he saw it.
Linda was nothing short of John’s unknown and hitherto unrealized dream. From that moment on they would act openly like lovers as she went with him to various attractions around the state. The day after their vacation was over, she would be standing beside him in Delaware as he showed her their house, the place she lovingly took in as she savored the thought that this might just be home to her and her partner for the rest of their lives.
They did wind up marrying and keeping their secret hidden from the world. And in spite of their biological relationship, they behaved as young and giddy as two teenagers who saw their names written across the heavens by the stars that smiled down on them with approval.
