“Okay,” she said.
It must have sounded like I knew what I was doing a lot more than I really knew what I was doing. She took in a deep breath and held it.
“Okay … now,” I said.
She exhaled and I pushed—hard. There were a series of little creaks and pops, and the hard knot that was under my fingers previously—it disappeared.
“My goodness! My GOODNESS!” Mrs. Branch said.
She moved her head from side to side and wiggled her back and turned her torso slightly this way and that. She was testing, testing her range of motion.
“My goodness. Mike! I think …” She went through her test movements again. “I think you’ve done it. I can’t believe it. I’m without the slightest bit of pain. However did you accomplish such a miracle?” She moved again, and then again.”
