Jane and I retired early followed by Barb and Sofia. We talked with Sofia and Barb and asked them how their day went. Sofia said she was really looking forward to starting classes but she was dreading leaving our household. Barb said she had fun helping Sofia get her classes worked out. She also commented on the awe in which the Math Department people held Sofia in. Sofia quipped that there was no pressure at all. Jane and I told them about our day with Rufus and Ronnie and told them that they would be coming to the party tomorrow. After a while we drifted off to sleep with Barb holding Sofia and me holding Jane.
I was the first up, as usual, and began to make coffee. Since Debbie and Denise weren’t with us I was able to dial back the amount I made. When everyone was up, we made and ate breakfast. When we had finished, I had decided that I should mow the lawn, taking advantage of the last of summer. Axel offered to help so I let him do the mowing while I weeded the flower beds. With his help, we got that chore done in quick order. While Axel and I worked, the women laid out on the patio while Pavel said he had some reading he had to do. By 3:00 everyone but Axel and I were headed for the showers. Axel and I decided to wait because we were going to grill hamburgers for dinner and didn’t want to smell like burnt meat all night. At 5:00 Rufus and Ronnie arrived and a few minutes later Denise and Debbie showed up. Axel and I grilled the hamburgers while Jane, Astrid and Barb got the rest of the meal ready. Before we ate, Axel and I took showers and then hurried back down to have our supper.
The meal was great fun with everyone getting to know Ronnie. Everyone was joking around and talking about the upcoming term at school. Finally, Rufus stood up and said he had an announcement to make. “Yesterday, Ronnie and I were here with Jane and Tony. As you may have surmised, it was an afternoon with lots of sex.” There were a few giggles and laughs. “However, after the sex and a short nap, Ronnie and I were both treated to the most profound expression of love either one of us had ever heard, between those two. It, literally, moved us both to tears. When we left, Ronnie and I talked about that moment all evening and because of those few minutes I was moved to ask Ronnie to marry me and she has accepted!”
A huge roar erupted as we all went to hug both Rufus and Ronnie. Pavel then asked, “Was that the big surprise? Because, if it was your clue was either senseless or in totally bad taste.”
Ronnie asked, “What was the clue?”
“‘The seed of the idea came from rape’ was the clue,” I replied.
Ronnie pondered for a few moments and then smiled. I think I know what it is. She walked over and whispered into my ear ‘canola oil?’ I smiled and nodded while Ronnie clapped her hands in glee. “Oh yeah! This is going to be fun!” Everyone looked at her with envy at her figuring out the mystery.
I told Jane that we might as well show them what the surprise is because the preparations will probably give it away. We went to the hiding place with Jane grabbing the bottles of oil and me grabbing the tarps. Jane walked into the room holding the oil high above her head and me trailing behind. Slowly, it dawned on everybody what was happening as Debbie cried out, “WESSON OIL PARTY!!” There was a great cheer all around the room. We got all of the inflatable mattresses together in the living room and then spread the tarps over them and a good part of the floor. Pavel suggested that we should tape the seams together to prevent leakage, so I got some duct tape and did just that.
